US Inventor Statement on Director John Squires’ Leadership at the USPTO.
US Inventor commends Director John Squires for his early leadership at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and his clear commitment to restoring fairness and balance to the U.S. patent system.
In a short time, Director Squires has demonstrated an understanding of the challenges facing small inventors and startups, along with a willingness to take meaningful action to address them. His recent decisions reflect strong judgment and an appreciation for the role that independent innovators play in driving America’s economy.
Under his leadership, the USPTO has taken important steps toward restoring accountability and improving consistency within the review process—key elements of fairness, due process, and integrity that are essential to a healthy patent system. Decisions such as Interactive Communications v. Blackhawk Network (IPR2024-00465) signal a renewed commitment to fairness, due process, and integrity, values essential to a healthy patent system.
US Inventor has long supported Deputy Director Coke Stewart and remains deeply appreciative of her leadership and vision.
